It's easy to dismiss work as a “special effect” or trick to grab the attention of others, which I once did with another of Tour's ideas. But this is the beginning of something real. In the long run, a more functional version of the nanocar could transport other molecules along and dispose of them at will, which this group appears to be working on right now. These are small steps towards nanoscale controlled delivery, which is in turn a small step towards assembly in nanotechnology.
