Saint Hilda, abbess. It is not known with certainty her year of birth, daughter of Edwin's nephew of Northumbria "Heredic", her father died shortly after Hilda was born and she was raised in Edwin's court in Northumbria. In 627, King Edwin is baptized along with all the members of his court, including Hilda. He enters a monastery located north of the River Wear, after a year Saint Aidan named her second abbess of Hartlepool. In 657 she founded the Whitby monastery, in England, a Benedictine abbey where she carried out her charitable and evangelical mission during Christianity in England. She was the mentor and discoverer of the poet Caedmon, a reference of him in "Church history".
His birthday is celebrated on November 17.
